Making life insurance fairer for the LGBTQ+ community
At Zurich, we want many people to live well and enjoy confident lives. That includes responding to the needs of people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+). We are committed to continuously making insurance fairer for LGBTQ+ Australians and are taking active steps to be the most inclusive insurer in Australia.
We put our hearts into caring for our customers. We’ve spent a lot of time getting to know the unique needs of the LGBTQ+ community. We have insured LGBTQ+ Australians for many years and have a history of leading inclusive practices such as providing cover for people living with HIV and people taking PrEP.
More recently, we have accelerated our journey to better support the LGBTQ+ community by partnering with the Victorian Pride Lobby (and other insurers) to commission a report into the LGBTQ+ community’s experiences with insurance providers. We’ve used the findings from this report to lay the foundations for more inclusive insurance products and processes.
So far, we have:
We know this is just a start and we all have more work to do but we are excited to be on this journey.
PrideZ aims to build a diverse and inclusive culture that values and supports all LGBTQ+ employees to feel safe to be themselves at work. PrideZ raises awareness of important LGBTQ+ issues and provides education for all Zurich employees. The committee hosts several events and training sessions each year, which are supported by our senior leaders. All Zurich employees are encouraged to be an ally and an advocate for inclusion.

Zurich proud to be part of Pride
We have used the acronym LGBTQ+ to represent the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer communities and all other diverse identities that aren’t specifically represented within the heterosexual or cisgender communities. We also acknowledge people with a variation of sex characteristics (sometimes called intersex) and the work required to make insurance more accessible and inclusive for them.
We’re working together to build a future we all deserve. We have developed this content in consultation with LGBTQ+ organisations including Pride in Diversity and our internal employee resource group PrideZ.
